Children's writing: The River - by Yusuf

Wow, Yusuf! Are you really in Year 4? This is a powerful description of the river because it is layered with strong images that help your reader imagine this place.  There are so many examples of literary devices here, but I particularly like:-

• ... a cacophony of bird calls...
• ... unsettled island ...
• ... lances of sunlight ...
• ... grotesque trees were emerging from the island ...
• ... slapping furiously ...
• ... holding its breath...
