Children's writing: Destiny (a story continuation) - by Praket

21.12.23

Your task was to continue the story from a story extract of about a page. The text was a true story of a girl in the 1970s who fell from an airplane while still strapped into her seat. She landed in the jungle.

You identified all the key features of the text, and then carried on the story as if you were the author.

You perfectly captured the mood and language of the original text, as well as create a spell-binding story continuation; it is a joy to read.

Thank you so much for sharing!

Let's read ...

Destiny - by Praket

Silence. Complete silence. Nothing moved nor talked. I eased my head to face the sky. What had that man said? ‘’They’ll hear you. Come with me’’. The words echoed in my head. Deep in my thoughts, I paid attention to the sky. Since now, I had never thought there would have been anything so beautiful in this dark miserable jungle, yet the stars twinkled like angels as they danced in the brooding- raving black sky. I shrugged my shoulders. Life was harder was then ever, and I was about to take a life changing decision.

Pain! That was what I was feeling as I tried to stand up. Absolute pain wreathing through my veins from my head to my feet. I had tried to get up, but my legs where burning, and they couldn’t hold my weight causing me to collapse onto the floor. When I finally stood up without my legs getting buckled beneath my body, I suddenly realised something. Where had the man gone? Trying to look brave, I looked boldly at the bushes, swaying side to side as if someone – or something was shaking them.

My body gave out on the spot. My legs turned jelly. My vision blurred – but before I passed out, I saw the glimpse of a figure in a black hood walking towards me …

When I woke up, I found myself tied to a chair in a dimly lit room. The figure in the black hood stood in front of me, his face shrouded in darkness. His body was hidden by a black cloak hemmed with silver stars. Who was he? Panic began to engulf me as I struggled against my restraints.

"What do you want from me?" I demanded, my voice trembling.

The figure remained silent for a moment before speaking, his voice low and gravelly. "You stumbled upon something you were never meant to see," he said cryptically. "We cannot let you leave."

A surge of fear coursed through my veins as I realized the gravity of the situation. Who were these people? What secrets had I unwittingly stumbled upon?

"I won't be a threat, I promise," I pleaded desperately. "Please, just let me go!"

Confusion merged with my fear. I had never considered myself special or capable of anything extraordinary. Yet, the figure seemed convinced of my hidden potential.

"Why me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

The figure leaned closer, the breath chilling against my skin. "You possess a rare gift, a connection to the ancient prophecies. The fate of this world rests in your hands."

I couldn't comprehend what I was hearing. This was beyond anything I had ever imagined. My decision suddenly became clearer - I had to embrace this life-changing opportunity, no matter the risks.

"Then show me," I said, my voice steady and determined. "Teach me to understand this power and fulfil whatever future awaits."

The figure nodded slowly, a hint of a smile beneath the black hood. The stars on his cloak gleamed. "Very well," he said. "Prepare yourself for a journey unlike anything you've ever known. Embrace the unknown, for your life will never be the same."

As the figure untied me from the chair, I felt a mixture of fear and anticipation. Whatever lay ahead, I knew I had made my choice. From that moment on, my path would be forever altered, and I was ready to face whatever challenges and revelations awaited me. I had to forge my destiny…
