Repeat the verb twice for story action
25.05.23
Did you have a go at last week’s action task for 11+ story writing?
Great!
Here’s another tip for further enhancing our action: repetition of the verb
There are many ways to use repetition for effect. One of these is repeating the verb twice.
Skill: repeating the verb twice
Example 1: using AND
The thunder boomed AND boomed across the bloated, angry sky.
Example 2: using a COMMA:
The thunder boomed, boomed across the bloated, angry sky.
Challenge
Use these verbs and settings to create DOUBLE VERB repetition. I’ve given you the verb and the setting, but you can choose the subject (i.e. wind / person, etc.,)
- Verb to be repeated twice = ran
Setting = forest or jungle
(E.g., The wind ran and ran through the dead forest. / The wind ran, ran through the dead forest. )
- Verb to be repeated twice = trundled
Setting = beach or sea
- Verb to be repeated twice = yelled
Setting = school playground or town shopping centre
I hope you find this helpful to up-level your story action!
