STOP PRESS!!!! The creative writing process is NOT neat!
Our students are AMAZING! They are getting to grips with the fact that creative writing is a process and that we can't produce a gleaming, finished product immediately. They have put their hearts into their ‘quality over quantity’ pieces of writing and have been willing to revise, sometimes quite heavily, along the way.
Want to instill a robust writing structure with your child? Here is a simple, five-step guide for parents:
- STEP 1: PRE-WRITING. THINK AND DECIDE. Make sure you understand your writing focus.
- STEP 2: RESEARCH. Share stimuli (a film clip, book extract, song, picture). Discuss characters, setting and plot, and generate and understand powerful new vocabulary.
- STEP 3: DRAFTING. Let’s write it!
- STEP 4: REVISING. Improve it – think again about punctuation, vocabulary, sentence and paragraph structure and plot techniques.
- STEP 5: EDITING AND PROOFREADING. Feel proud of your completed piece of writing.
