Thank you for sharing this with us Caron. You have really created tension here. The story starts of so gently with some lovely description, including personification and similes.  You add rhetorical questions to draw the reader in to the character’s thoughts. This works really well. You have thought really carefully about using punctuation for effect (such as the ellipses) and have accurately used commas for opening adverbial phrases. Well done!
