Children's writing: The Elephant - by Alicia

This was a very tricky picture to write about, and you have done a great job, Alicia. It's tricky because it's so strange and therefore writing can become confused or too silly. But, you've thought of a really great plot and described the characters and setting well so your reader can imagine this weird situation!

Let's read ...

The Elephant

People of different ages lined up outside the zoo in London. Everyone carried a midnight-black camera. You could almost hear excited cheers and whooping sounds. Inside, caged animals watched groups of human dash past their cages. One of the animals thought, “How strange! What is happening and where are they going?”

Every single person was walking towards the same direction, the laboratory. The elephants were morose as they stared at the cobalt-blue sky, very conscious of what was happening. One of the new baby elephants was in a very bad place to be an entertainer. The other animals were watching them curiously. One thought, ‘Did the elephants know what was happening?”

The laboratory is the place where every single creature dreaded. Those who went there before were tortured, experimented, and badly wounded. Now it’s an elephant’s turn. A baby one.

Everybody darted to the largest room. Inside a glass cage was an elephant. The elephant was surrounded by crystal-clear water. Humongous bubbles popped out of its grey, wrinkly trunk.

People gathered right in front of the cage, poking and pointing at the poor baby elephant. Not a single person knew what was ahead of the now enjoyable life.

The elephant was furious. She thought, ‘ I don’t deserve to be here! I was just born! Hump! They will regret what they did to me, a new born nameless cute elephant!’

The elephant was now enraged. She gave an impressive roar, back to the end of the cage and charged right forward like a bull. Bam! Thump! Thump! Argh! The crystal-clear glass exploded and the elephant broke free, landing on several people. But the water escaped too!

Water crashed down like a massive wave, bringing death as it floated around. The elephant stormed out to the outdoors. When she saw her caged family, she cried loudly and charged forward. Suddenly, a net wrapped her tightly and the next moment, a razor sharp axe landed on her satisfyingly.
