Children's Writing: building tension by using a staircase - by Caron
27.04.22
Thank you for sharing your writing from our 'Weekly Writing Club', Caron. This week we looked at how to create tension when a character discovers and climbs a staircase. You've done a brilliant job of this by starting the description with the character entering a dusty hallway that had been untouched for years. Then you describe the sooty staircase littered with debris which wound 'like a maze'. Once the character is at the top of the stairs, they turn around and realise that the staircase has changed from a wooden one into an ancient, crumbling staircase. Super job, Caron!
