Children's writing: a study of an excited character - by Manya

This is a super idea, Manya, to contrast a character who feels nervous ('With heart pounding') with an opposite emotion from a character who feels excited (...he was just hopping on the seat...). It makes the characters' situations more stark. It also helps your reader to understand the emotional journey that the character is on.
